Smallest snail apartment of China: Mother and son crowd in 1-meter-wide building hole in Guiyang
The snail apartment is located in a hole of a residential building on Yueying Street of Guiyang, capital city of southwestern Guizhou Province. The hole is about 3 to 4 meter deep, 1 meter high and the widest area of the hole is only 1 meter.
The snail apartment is so small but still it does not belong to the mother Ma Zhuzhen 马竹珍 and her 6 years old son Ma Zhenjie 马振杰 who have rented it as their home for years. And the shape of the hole is not so regular. Some area is higher or narrower than other areas. The apartment looks more like a tunnel. Everyday even the 1.1 meter tall son can not straighten his body and has to climb in and out of his home.
The shelter of the Guiyang mother and son has been called by local city residents as the smallest snail apartment of China. The pictures of the snail house have been reposted for tens of thousands of times by Chinese netizens so far. While sympathizing the poor Guiyang mother, many Chinese netizens question why local government does not offer help. And some Chinese netizens mock the CCTV news program Happy China by suggesting CCTV to interview the mother whether they are happy.
