Myolie Wu is a Hong Kong actress under the management of TVB and a singer with Neway Star. Myolie Wu is best known for her roles in movies she starred in: Wars of In-Laws(我的野蛮奶奶), Triumph in the Skies(冲上云霄), To Grow With Love(肥田喜事), Ghetto Justice(怒火街头) and Curse of the Royal Harem(万凰之王).
Myolie Wu (Chinese name:胡杏儿, Pinyin: Hu Xing Er) was born on 6 November 1979 in Hong Kong. Since her father Mr. Wu was a civil servant in Hong Kong, his children received the benefit to study abroad. As a teenage, her parents devoiced and she and two sisters lived with and were raised by her father.
Myolie Wu only studied for several years in boarding high school at Methodist College Belfast, Northern Ireland. Due to living overseas, Myolie’s perspective in life was broadened, increasing her independence. She later returned to Hong Kong and attended the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, majoring in Biochemistry.
After Myolie Wu became the second runner-up in the 1999 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, Hong Kong University kept her grades active for one year. When she started filming dramas, she signed on to TVB as a full-time contracted artist and officially withdrew from school.
In her early years, Myolie Wu started out as supporting characters in television serials. Her acting began to gain recognition through her breakthrough performance in Golden Faith（流金岁月）. Her role was well-received by the audience and she was awarded the Most Improved Female Artiste Award at the 2002 TVB Anniversary Awards.
Myolie Wu was offered her first lead role in Survivor's Law （律政新人王） in 2003. In the same year, she also starred in the classic TVB drama Triumph in the Skies （冲上云霄）alongside veteran actors Francis Ng（吴镇宇） and Flora Chan. Both series received high viewership ratings and Myolie soon rose to popularity.
In 2005, TVB aired 5 drama serials in which Myolie was lead actress. She received further acknowledgement for her acting in the hit series Wars of In-Laws （我的野蛮奶奶）where she played the shrewd daughter in-law of Liza Wang. The same serial was also what sparked her ongoing rumours with co-star Bosco Wong （黄宗泽）.
Despite widespread criticism, Myolie Wu gained major weight for her role as an overweight woman in the 2006 television series To Grow With Love （肥田喜事）. Through her role, she was awarded "Best Comedy Performance by an Actress" at the Asian Television Award, making her the first Hong Kong artiste to win an award at the prestigious ceremony.
In 2007, Myolie Wu was paired with Mainland actor Feng Shao Feng （冯绍峰）in the TVB-CCTV joint production The Drive Of Life （岁月风云）. The couple was well-received by fans. She also starred as Chow Lai-Man in the second installment of War of In-Laws, Wars of In-Laws II in same year.
Myolie Wu took another step in her acting career in 2009 by filming her first Mainland drama Schemes of a Beauty （美人心计）. The drama achieved a high viewership rating and her performance was well-praised. She continued to film her second Mainland series Happy Mother-in-law, Pretty Daughter-in-law（欢喜婆婆俏媳妇） as lead actress the same year and gained widespread popularity in Mainland China.
She also filmed her third Mainland drama Racecourse（跑马场） alongside boyfriend Bosco Wong in late 2010. The series was their third collaboration portraying a couple.
In 2011, Myolie Wu starred in TVB dramas The Rippling Blossom（鱼跃在花见）, Ghetto Justice（怒火街头）, and Curse of the Royal Harem （万凰之王）and all three series were listed as Top 5 in viewership ratings of the year. She was crowned "TV Queen" at the 2011 TVB Anniversary Awards after being awarded Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in Curse of the Royal Harem and My Favorite Female Character for her role in Ghetto Justice. She was also voted by the audience as the Most Extraordinary Elegant Actress (Bosco Wong won the male equivalent) during the awards, making her the first ever TVB actress to win 3 awards at the same award ceremony.
Myolie Wu took the first step in her singing career through singing the theme song for her television series War and Destiny in 2007.
She then signed on to the music label Neway Star in 2008 and released her first EP entitled Evolve. In 2009, she released her second EP Loveholic and held her first solo mini-concert. The concert version Liveholic of her EP Loveholic was then released in early 2010.
Myolie Wu has been rumored to be dating co-star Bosco Wong (黄宗泽) since the filming of Wars of In-Laws （我的野蛮奶奶） in 2005. Over the years the couple has been captured by the Hong Kong media going out together and visiting each others' homes numerous times, though the two would always deny and claim to be "best friends".
Actually Myolie Wu and Bosco Wong have dated for 7 years, maintaining an underground relationship all along. The couple only officially acknowledged their relationship during the 2011 TVB Anniversary Awards when Myolie was awarded Best Actress. Accepting the 2011 TVB Best Actress Award from Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) and Patrick Tse ( 謝賢), Myolie cried tearfully, while publicly thanking boyfriend, Bosco Wong. She stated, “I know that I have many faults, but so do you! However, I hope that we can continue to support each other.”
