As many as 150000 Qipao-clad Chinese women strutted their stuff on stages, runways across the world on Saturday May 16 in an effort to break Guiness world record for largest Qipao show.

Thousands of Chinese women wearing myriad, stylish and colorful Qipao joined yesterday’s World Guinness Qipao Show, trying to create a world record for the largest number of women wearing Qipao at the same time.

Hosted by the China Cheongsam Association (CCA) in order to raise awareness and promote appreciation for Asian female beauty, the mass cheongsam beauty parade included 420 stages across the world, and 150000 Chinese women participants from all over the world.

Qipao or cheongsam (??) is a body-hugging one-piece traditional Chinese dress that is said to have been worn since the Manchu ruled China in the 17th century. The stylish and often tight-fitting cheongsam that is best known today was created in the 1920s in Shanghai and made fashionable by socialites and upper class women.
