Kunming holds kissing competition to welcome Qixi Holiday - the Chinese Valentine's Day
The traditional Chinese holiday for lovers, Qixi Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day in the west, falls on the seventh day of the 7th lunar month. For the year 2013, it is coming on August 13, 2013.
Times have changed a lot. In ancient times, Chinese lovers celebrate Qixi Holiday by singing veiled love songs before or secretly hand a colorful silk ball to his or her beloved. Even for the generation born shortly after the founding of communist China, it is adventure for the lovers to walk hand-in-hand on the streets.
But now, China seems to become even more westernized. Just within a decade, kissing competition in the public has become routine program all over China for this traditional Chinese festival Qixi.
6 couples took part in a kissing competition organized by a shopping center on the street in Kunming, capital city of Southwestern China’s Yunan province. After 47 minutes, two couples won the championship and runner-up respectively.
The competition is really a tough contest. After winning the championship, the woman of the winner couple was too tired to keep on her feet any more.
