Yang Mi, born in Beijing on September 12, 1986, is a mainland top Chinese actress. Yang Mi entered the Performance Institute of Beijing Film Academy in 2005. She is best known for her role as Guo Xiang in the 2006 TV series The Return of the Condor Heroes (《神雕侠侣》) and as Tang Xuejian in Chinese Paladin 3 《仙剑奇侠传三》in 2009. However, she has been gaining even greater popularity through her role as Luo Qingchuan in Palace (《宫》,《宫锁心玉》) in 2011.

Since April 2009, Yang Mi has been widely considered a member of the Four Young Dan actresses (Chinese: 四小花旦) along with Huang Shengyi 黄圣依, Wang Luodan 王珞丹, Liu Yifei 刘亦菲.

Yang Mi was born in Xuanwu District of Beijing in 1986. Her father was a police officer and mother was jobless. Because both of her parents are surnamed Yang, her birth is a third Yang, her parents named her Yang Mi (杨幂, power of Yang).

Yang Mi started to act at the age of 4 when she was selected by the drama group for Tang Ming Huang directed by Chen Jialin to act as Xianyin Princess. Since then, her life has been intertwined with acting and modelling.

Yang Mi signed with Beijing Rongxinda Filming Arts Co., Ltd. co-funded by Li XIaowan and Li Shaohong in 2004 at the age of 16. And in June of the same year, when she was still a middle school student, she acted as Guo Xiang in The Return of Condor Heroes directed by Yu Min. Her performance in the TV series proved to be a turning point in her life. Her action skills were recognized by Hong Kong audience who praised Yang Mi was the most pure Guo Xiang so far. Yang Mi later acknowledged the TV drama was very important in her career.

In 2005, defeating Fan Bingbing, Li Bingging, Gao Yuanyuan and other top Chinese actresses, Yang Mi was selected by CCTV drama crew to star the history drama Wang Zhao Jun.

Yang Mi joined drama crew of new A Dream in Red Mansions 新版红楼梦 and acted as Qing Wen on July 7, 2008. In Auguest of 2008, just before the filming of Chinese Paladin III, the crew negotiated with drama crew of A Dream in Red Mansions and managed to borrow Yang Mi to star the TV series as two different roles: Xi Yao and Xue Jian.

In 2009, with the hot broadcasting of Chinese Paladin 3, Yang Mi saw her popularity soaring in maindland China. The visits to her blog were increasing at a speed of one hundred per minute and the number of her fans, who have been called bees (Mi Feng) has been increasing by hundred per day.

In April of 2009, Yang Mi was voted in the Top Entertainment Stars of Post-1980 Generation by millions of Chinese and hundreds of entertainment reporters as one of the four Dan (Four actresses) of mainland China along with Huang Sheng Yi, Wang Luo Dan and Liu Yifei.

In 2010, after her contract with Rongxinda Entertainment Co., Ltd. expired, she joined Hong Kong based Meiah Entertainment Group and acted in several TV dramas such as The Legend of the Twelve Chinese Zodiacs 十二生肖传奇,Hongwu Da'an 洪武大案, Xin Jingcheng Si Shao 新京城四少, We are in same family 我们同是一家人 and Palace 宫.

The time-travel drama Palace kept topping the audience ratings since it started to be broadcasted in mainland China. Yang Mi starred as Qing Chuan in the time-travel TV series. In 2011, Yang Mi joined the Forbes Top 100 celebrities of China for her popularity among Chinese for her acting performance in Palace and she ranked 92.

In January 2012, Yang Mi Studio was established and on January 4th, 2012, her first album 《亲幂关系Close to Me》was published. On March 6th, youth idol drama Chinese girl began to film and it is the first time that Yang Mi is the production manager.

In recently published Forbes 2012 Chinese Celebrities, Yang Mi saw her rankings jumped from 92 in 2011 to 13, the biggest increase among the members.
