The Taiyuan nail grave that has aroused grobal attention for standing in middle of a construction site has been moved away, as the Longbao village committee agrees to precondition the owner of the grave, Chang Jinzhu, set for relocation of the grave of his deceased relatives, in addition to the official compensation criterium of 800 RMB. The precondition, according to Chang Shoucheng, director of Longbao village committee, is that Chang Jinzhu will be allowed to rent a 2.55-mu (1700 square meters) plot of land for a period of 20 years.
The grave, standing in middle of the construction site of the Longyuan residential complex in Taiyuan of Shanxi province, has been called by Chinese netizens as the most awesome nail tomb of China
. While some criticized the owner of the nail tomb was too greedy and demanded too much, a majority Chinese netizens support the grave owner to defend his civil rights.
When pictures of the nail tomb standing in middle of a construction site drew nationwide attention on December 8, a local official said that the owner had received 1 million RMB of compensation but still would not relocate it. The statement angered the tomb owner Chang Jinzhu, who vehemently denied he asked for so much.
The high attention on the nail grave from China as well as from the world put pressure on both the Longbao village committee and Chang Jinzhu. The two sides moved into quick resolution on December 12 and Chang Jinzhu agreed to relocate the grave of his deceased ancestors on December 15 on the condition that besides the 800 RMB standard compensation for every grave, he would be allowed to rent a 2.55-mu (1700 square meters) plot of land for a period of 20 years. Both sides said the 1 million compensation was a rumor.
Preparation work was started shortly after. On Dec. 15 a simple viaduct were erected to the 10 meter high mound, on which the grave stood, in middle of the construction site. On the morening of Dec. 18, the grave owner, Chang Jinzhu hired 30 fellow villagers and moved the four bodies of his deceased ancestors in the grave away.
