The Chinese National Higher Education Entrance Examination, or commonly known as Gao Kao (高考), is an academic examination held annually in mainland China. This examination is a prerequisite for entrance into almost all higher education institutions.
Each year in the early summer when Gaokao takes place nationwide, the entire society is full of anxiety. After a whole year of efforts, nearly 10 milliion Chinese middle school students take part in the examination which will possibly determine their future.
