Freezing temperature turned a car parked under a light rail flyover into an ice sculpture on March 11th, 2013 in Changchun, capital city of Jilin Province in Northeast China.

According to local residents the car has been parked under the flyover for several days. On the sunny day of March 9th, the relatively high temperature melted the snow on top of the flyover and the melt water dropped onto the car, which were frozen within minutes under the flyover where temperature was below zero.

Because the car was parked under the shadow of the overpass the sun does not melt the ice during the day so more and more keeps accumulating. The process continued into the night and in the end the car became covered in a hard layer of ice and now it looks like an ice sculpture.

The car shaped ice sculpture has drawn many passers-by to look on and take photos of the stunning natural art. And when pictures were uploaded onto internet, while some netizens are amazed by the magic of the nature, others are arguing with each other on how to strip off the “ice clothes” of the car.

“Wait until the temperature gets higher and drive it away!” suggests one netizen from

“I suggest to make a fire to melt the ice”, recommends another.

“Pour boiling water on the car and the ice will melt quickly”, says QQ user ~爱神~88.

„That will work but will cause the car window glass to break, I suggest to pour cool water instead”, QQ user帅得那么有气质 apparently disagrees.

Changchun has a four-season, monsoon-influenced, humid continental. Winters are long (lasting from November to March), cold, and windy, but dry, due to the influence of the Siberian anticyclone, with a January mean temperature of −15.1 °C.
