February 9,2012, Wuhan - This is an activity generated by some feminism activists in Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province.
A woman harnesses three men with iron chains to promote women rights protection and the equalism. The organizers responded some critics to explain they did this for catching public eyes.
Yesterday an action art performed on Optic Valley Plaza of Wuhan City in Hubei Province drew large crowd of poeple to stay and watch: three men were harnessed by a woman with iron chain and asked to crawl for more than a hundred meters like dogs. And one of the men even crept to lick the feet of the women.
The organizer, 25 years old Kang Yi (康毅) from Hengyang City of Hunan Province, said the art was to protest against the current patriarchal society and to call for equality between men and women. The onlookers exhibit a mixed reaction to the action art.
Kang Yi explained that women as the weak group of people in the patriarchal society, were often victims of family violence and sex discrimination. His purpose of performing the action art was to question and grill the concept that men were superior over women. Kang Yi called for the society to protect the rights of Chinese women. When asked whether the art was too extreme, Kang Yi acknowledged:" Art always employs exaggeration to draw public attention".
